Win £250 in Our Photography Competition for Budding Photographers!

In memory of Nigel Cummings, who dedicated nearly 27 years as the Society’s journalist for our news magazine, InsideOR, we are launching a special photography competition. Nigel, who sadly passed away in early 2024, was also an avid photographer, capturing many memorable images at Society events. To honour his legacy, the Society, along with Nigel’s partner, Gary, have created this competition. Unlike typical photography contests that focus on technical skills, this one celebrates the spirit and impact of OR (Operations Research) in its broadest sense.

Gary shared, “Nigel’s love for photography was a lifelong passion. He spent countless hours perfecting his photos, giving as much attention to composition as to the subject. This dedication was evident in his writing as well. Nigel often said, ‘I’m never happier than when I have a camera in one hand and a pen in the other.’ This competition encourages participants to not only think carefully about their entries but also to remember Nigel. He would be thrilled to know he is helping others pursue or ignite their passion for photography. Good luck to all entrants!”

Competition Details

• Theme: The spirit and impact of OR, analytics, or data science.
• Submission Requirements: Each photo must have a title and a short paragraph explaining its relevance to the theme.
• Entries per Person: Up to three images per entrant.
